A new musical parody that sends up American beach movies is coming to Southwark Playhouse Borough this summer.
Fun at the Beach – Romp-Bomp-a-Lomp!! is written by New York based songwriter Brandon Lambert (JANE ) and writer, actor and musician Martin Landry, and this new world premiere production will be directed by award-winner Mark Bell (The Play That Goes Wrong, Cluedo 2 – The Next Chapter, Waiting For Godot).
Fun at the Beach features parodies of iconic retro beach movie hits, and is billed as “Grease mets Squid Game,” promising to be an explosively fun, slapstick horror.
Writer Martin Landry said in a statement: “Fun at the Beach Romp-Bomp-a-Lomp!! was born in 2018, when I witnessed my co-writer, Brandon Lambert, performing in a jukebox musical (which shall remain unnamed). The music was so much fun and completely irresistible, but the story was staggeringly painful. After the show (and after a few drinks to ease our distress), we asked ourselves a seemingly impossible question: what if we wrote something even worse? And now, here we are! We hope you enjoy Fun at the Beach Romp-Bomp-a-Lomp!!”
Fun at the Beach – Romp-Bomp-a-Lomp!! is playing at Southwark Playhouse Borough from 24 May to 22 June 2024.
