Thomas Ostermeier’s reimagining of Henrik Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People starring Matt Smith is extending its run at the Duke of York’s Theatre in London.
The production was originally scheduled to close on 6 April, but has now extended by one week to 13 April 2024.
An Enemy of the People had its official opening last night in the West End, read a round-up of reviews from London theatre critics.
Tickets are now on sale for the additional week.
Presented in English for the first time, Thomas Ostermeier’s production features an acclaimed cast including Matt Smith (Doctor Who, The Crown, House of the Dragon) as Dr Stockmann, Jessica Brown Findlay (Downton Abbey) as Katharina Stockmann, Priyanga Burford (Industry) as Aslaksen, Zachary Hart (Julius Caesar) as Billing, Paul Hilton (The Inheritance) as Peter Stockmann, Nigel Lindsay (The Lehman Trilogy) as Morten Kiil, and Shubham Saraf (The Father and the Assassin) as Hovstad.
The cast also includes Sam Armfield as Understudy Thomas Stockman, Saskia Ashdown as Understudy Aslaksen & Katharina, Chris Porter as Understudy Peter Stockman & Morten Kiil, and Vilberg Andri Pálsson as Understudy Billing & Hovstad.
This adaptation by Thomas Ostermeier and Florian Borchmeyer is designed by Jan Pappelbaum, with costume design by Natasha Jenkins, lighting design by Urs Schönebaum, sound design by Ben and Max Ringham, and wall paintings by Katharina Ziemke. Original costume design was by Nina Wetzel, original lighting design by Erich Schneider, and original sound design by Malte Beckenbach and Daniel Freitag.
