Macbeth cast announced for Shakespeare’s Globe including Max Bennett & Matti Houghton

Shakespeare’s Globe theatre in London has revealed casting for its forthcoming production of Shakespeare’s Macbeth.

Directed by Abigail Graham (The Merchant of Venice), Macbeth will star Max Bennett in the title role, with Matti Houghton as Lady Macbeth.

Max Bennett’s previous stage work includes ‘Tis Pity She’s A Whore for the Globe, and Anna at the National Theatre, Bull at the Young Vic, King Lear in Chichester and at BAM in New York, and Relatively Speaking in the West End.

His TV work includes A Small Light (Disney+), Slow Horses (Apple), and Poldark (BBC), with films including The Gentlemen, Anna Karenina, and Bohemian Rhapsody.

Matti Houghton’s stage credits include Henry V and Richard III at the Globe, Angela at The Lyceum, Edinburgh, The Crucible at Manchester Royal Exchange, and Brimstone And Treacle at the Arcola Theatre; and TV work includes Call The Midwife, Manhunt, The Collection and Law & Order.

The cast also includes Aaron Anthony as Macduff, Eleanor Wyld as Lady Macduff, Fode Simbo as Banquo, Helena Lymbery as Duncan / Siward, Joseph Payne as Malcolm, Calum Callaghan as Witch / Porter / Murderer, Ben Caplan as Witch / Murderer / Doctor, Ferdy Roberts as Witch / Seyton, Gabby Wong as Ross, Luke Beggs as Young Siward, Timothy Daniel as Fleance, Max Ellis as Young Siward, Cam’ron Joseph as Macduff’s Child, Arno Perry as Macduff’s Child, and Elijah Sholanke as Fleance.

Director Abigail Graham said in a press statement: “I am incredibly grateful to be exploring Macbeth with this fearless ensemble of actors. They truly are some of the most exciting and talented collaborators a director could wish for. Together we will create a Macbeth which feels genuinely alive and in dialogue with the world we all find ourselves in today.”

The creative team also includes Associate Director – Naeem Hayat; Composer – Osnat Schmool; Costume Supervisor – Anna Dixon; Designer – Ti Green; Dramaturg – Zoë Svendsen; Fight Director – Bret Yount; Globe Associate – Movement – Glynn MacDonald; Movement Director – Jenni Jackson; Text Coach – Michael Gould; Voice Coach – Claudette Williams; and Wellbeing Practitioner – Carol Cumberbatch.

Currently playing at Shakespeare’s Globe are their acclaimed productions of The Comedy of Errors (until 29 July 2023); and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (until 12 August 2023).

Macbeth is running at Shakespeare’s Globe from 21 July to 28 October 2023.
