Tony Awards 2023 – Full List of Winners

The American Theatre Wing and the Broadway League have announced the winners of the 76th Annual Tony Awards 2023.

It was a big night for British theatre talent and West End theatre, with Jodie Comer taking home Best Actress for her performance in the West End-to-Broadway transfer of Prima Facie.

Another transfer, Tom Stoppard’s Leopoldstadt, took home Best Play, plus best director for Patrick Marber, best actor in a featured role for Brandon Uranowitz, and best costume design for Brigitte Reiffenstuel. The show was the best performing play of the night.

This was Tom Stoppard’s fifth Tony Award – no other playwright has ever won more than two Best Play awards.

Also scooping awards was the UK production of Life of Pi, which started life in Sheffield, and had played the Wyndham’s Theatre for an extended run. It took home best scenic design for Tim Hatley and Andrzej Goulding, Tim Lutkin for best lighting, and Carolyn Downing for best sound.

Musical Kimberly Akimbo took home the most Tonys, with five, including Best Musical and best actress for Victoria Clark; followed by Some Like It Hot, with four wins, including a best actor win for J Harrison Ghee.

Musical revivals Parade and Sweeney Todd both scooped two wins each.

Hosted by Ariana DeBose, the awards ceremony took place for the first time at the United Palace, a former Washington Heights cinema in New York City.

In terms of lifetime achievement awards, Lin-Manuel Miranda presented legendary composer John Kander (Cabaret), by far the longest working composer in Broadway history, with the Lifetime Achievement Award; and actress Jennifer Grey presented her father Joel Grey with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Performances on the night included the Broadway production of & Juliet, Lea Michele singing from Funny Girl, the cast of Some Like It Hot, and the cast of Camelot. Watch these performances on CBS’s website.

In total for this year’s Tony Awards nominations, 38 Broadway shows were eligible for awards, including 17 original plays and six revivals, and nine new musicals and six musical revivals.
