PHOTOS ON THE NIGHT
This year’s Olivier Awards night is set to be a truly glamorous affair, with a wealth of well known stage and musical stars coming together at the Royal Opera House in London to celebrate the best of the West End.
This year’s awards will once again be hosted by West End stars Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton, who are currently starring in Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd at the Adelphi Theatre. Past hosts of the awards include Kevin Spacey, Clive Anderson, Angela Lansbury, Barry Norman, Anthony Hopkins, Sue Lawley, Diana Rigg, Edward Fox, Jane Asher and Angela Rippon.
Star presenters will be confirmed in the coming weeks. Last year saw celebrities including Matthew Fox, Alfie Boe, Benedict Cumberbatch, Jonny Lee Miller, Elaine Paige, Patrick Stewart, Rupert Everett, Amanda Holden and Elisabeth Moss present awards.
A host of West End stars and casts from shows will perform at the Awards. Details to be announced.
5 February 2012: BBC Radio 2 Audience Award launched
Elaine Paige launched the public voting for the Olivier Award Audience Award on her Sunday show. Shows are eligible if they opened before 1 January 2011 and are still running on 15 April 2012. Last year’s winner, We Will Rock You, is excluded from the voting. You can place your vote here.
11 March 2012: BBC Radio 2 Audience Award shortlist announced
The shortlist for the BBC Radio 2 Audience Award is announced on Elaine Paige’s Sunday morning Radio 2 show. This shortlist is based on the first round of public voting (vote for your favourite show here). Then a second round of public voting will take place, before the winner is announced on 15 April.
15 March 2012: Nominations announced
The nominees for the Olivier Awards 2012 will be announced at the Mayfair Hotel in London at 12 noon.
15 April 2011: The Awards ceremony at the Royal Opera House
The 2012 ceremony will be held at the Royal Opera House, hosted by Sweeney Todd stars Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton.
Theatregoers can enjoy the show in Covent Garden piazza, where there will be music and entertainment, and a live stream of events including red carpet arrivals and the ceremony itself. New for this year, New York theatregoers will also be able to enjoy the show, with a special live relay of the Olivier Awards being staged in the US.

This year’s awards will be broadcast via the BBC’s red button service (digital, cable or satellite viewers only), with red carpet arrivals from 5pm on 15 April 2012, and coverage of the ceremony from 6pm. Live coverage will also feature on BBC Radio 2.
