Southwark Playhouse has revealed casting for its forthcoming show Berlusconi: A New Musical.
Based on the Italian politician and media mogul Silvio Berlusconi, the musical premieres at Southwark Playhouse Elephant on 25 March 2023.
Written by Ricky Simmonds and Simon Vaughan, this modern-day cautionary tale is produced by Francesca Moody (Fleabag) and directed by James Grieve (Fisherman’s Friends).
The cast will include Sebastien Torkia (Matilda The Musical) as Silvio Berlusconi, Sally Ann Triplett (Cabaret) as Ilda, Jenny Fitzpatrick (A Christmas Carol) as Fama, Natalie Kassanga (Dreamgirls) as Bella, plus McCallam Connell (The Color Purple) as the Judge, John Conroy (Half a Sixpence) as Luigi, Susan Fay (The Girls) as Mama Rosa, Emma Hatton (Wicked) as Veronica, Gavin Wilkinson (Guys and Dolls) as Vladimir Putin and Matthew Woodyatt (Piaf) as Antonio.
Rehearsals begin on 13 February 2023 for the show.
Berlusconi is a naughty, noisy exposé of the perma-tanned media mogul and politician, all told through the eyes of three formidable women ready to share their side of the story!
Joining director James Grieve in the creative team are: Choreography by Rebecca Howell (The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13 ¾ ), Set and Costume by Lucy Osborne (The Famous Five), Musical Supervision, Arrangements and Co-Orchestrations by Paul Schofield (Hair – In Concert), Musical Direction by Jordan Li Smith (City of Angels), Lighting Design by Oliver Fenwick (Blues for Alabama Sky), Sound Design by Dan Samson (Heathers), Video Design by Stanley Orwin Fraser for Duncan McClean Projection (The Jungle), Music Production and Co-orchestration by Lewis Andrews, and Original Vocal Score and Original Vocal Arrangements by David White (Cabaret). Math Roberts (Merrily We Roll Along) is Associate Musical Director and Casting is by Will Burton CDG. The show is associate produced by Alex Cooke and Alan Hayling, based on an original idea by Alan Hayling.
Southwark Playhouse Elephant is a brand new venue that opens this week. One of its first fully-staged shows will be a revival of Enda Walsh’s hit comedy The Walworth Farce, which starts on 17 February 2023.
