What's the story of Mother Goose?

Mother Goose (McKellen) and her husband Vic (Bishop) run an Animal Sanctuary for waifs and strays and live a wholesome life inside an abandoned Debenhams. But when a goose flies in, will fame and fortune get the better of them?! Will Ma’s feathers be seriously ruffled? Will Pa tell everyone to get stuffed?! And is their fair life about to turn fowl? Get ready for fairies with hefty vocal chords, puppets with tap dance qualifications and impeccably constructed mayhem that will quack up the whole family.

They are joined by Oscar Conlon-Morrey as Jack, Simbi Akande as Jill, Sharon Ballard as Evil Fairy Malignia and Karen Mavundukure as Good Fairy Encanta, plus Adam Brown, Gabriel Fleary, Richard Leeming and Genevieve Nicole.

Further casting has been announced for Mother Goose starring Ian McKellen - which is coming to the Duke of York's Theatre this Christmas. Replacing Mel Giedroyc, who had to drop out of the show, will be West End star Anna-Jane Casey as Cilla The Goose. She joins the previously announced cast including multi-award winning actor Ian McKellen as Mother Goose and acclaimed comedian John Bishop as Vic Goose, plus Oscar Conlon-Morrey (Only Fools and Horses) as Jack, Simbi Akande (The Prince of Egypt) as Jill, Sharon Ballard (Quiz) as Evil Fairy Malignia and Karen Mavundukure (The Color Purple) as Good Fairy Encanta. Also announced today joining the cast are Adam Brown, Gabriel Fleary, Richard Leeming and Genevieve Nicole, and the cast is completed by Mairi Barclay, Becca Francis, Shailan Gohil and Laura Tyrer. Mel Giedroyc drops out of Mother Goose at the Duke of York’s Theatre
Producers of London pantomime Mother Goose, which is coming to the West End this Christmas starring Ian McKellen, have announced that Mel Giedroyc has had to bow out of the production. Actress, comedian and former Great British Bake Off star Mel Giedroyc was to star as the Goose in the show. The panto will play the Duke of York's Theatre from 15 December 2022 to 29 January 2023. ATG Productions and Mel Giedroyc said is a statement that it was "with great sadness, Mel will no longer be able to star as The Goose in the upcoming pantomime Mother Goose." The statement went on to say that, "Everyone in the show sends love and best wishes to Mel and her family. Casting for the role of The Goose will be announced soon." Mel Giedroyc said today: “Due to personal reasons, I have made the difficult decision to withdraw from the forthcoming production of Mother Goose. I am thankful to the producers of the show for being so understanding and wish everyone involved in the production a fantastic tour throughout the UK and Ireland. Now, more than ever we all need a bit of joy, and I can’t wait to see it myself.
