The West End Theatre guide to what shows are playing in London theatres during 2023.

This guide will be continually updated as shows go on sale for London’s 2023 theatre season.

And 2023 looks like its going to be BIG, with a wealth of long-running plays and musicals joined by a lot of new shows – from blockbuster musicals, to revivals of famous plays, and brand new shows from exciting creative talent.

Major new musicals set to open in 2023 include the Broadway transfers of movie-to-stage hit Mrs Doubtfire The Musical at the Shaftesbury Theatre; Ain’t Too Proud – The Life and Times of The Temptations at the Prince Edward Theatre; a new production of Guys and Dolls at the Bridge Theatre; the transfer of the five-star production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! at the Wyndham’s Theatre; and mega-hit Broadway show The SpongeBob Musical coming to the Queen Elizabeth Hall.

New homegrown musicals include Beverley Knight starring in Sylvia at the Old Vic Theatre; and starry revivals of much-loved shows include Michael Ball starring Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Aspects of Love at the Lyric Theatre.

New productions of plays coming in 2023 include some major transfers and stellar casts. Tom Hollander stars in the Almeida’s acclaimed production of Patriots at the Noel Coward Theatre, written by The Crown’s Peter Morgan; Jenna Coleman and Poldark’s Aidan Turner star in hilarious and provocative play Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons Lemons at the Harold Pinter Theatre; the National Theatre’s Tony award-winning play The Lehman Trilogy is back in the West End at the Gillian Lynne Theatre; and Sophie Okonedo and Ben Daniels star in Medea at @sohoplace theatre.

Long-running West End musicals: A lot of the long-running shows included in our 2023 are currently extending their booking periods into 2023, so there’s more and more availability for those shows in 2023. That includes big shows such as Cameron Mackintosh-produced musicals Les Miserables andThe Phantom of the Opera, Disney’s shows The Lion King and Frozen The Musical; and all of the crowd-pleasing mega-hits such as Cabaret, Moulin Rouge The Musical, Wicked, Tina – The Tina Turner Musical, Back to the Future, Six The Musical, Pretty Woman The Musical, The Book of Mormon, Mamma Mia! and much more!
