West End Live set for 22 and 23 June in Trafalgar Square
May 29, 2013
Annual theatre event West End Live is set to return to Trafalgar Square this year for two days of FREE theatrical entertainment.
From Here To Eternity, The Color Purple, Open Air’s The Sound Of Music to premiere at the event.
Organised by the Society of London Theatre and Westminster City Council, the free theatre event West End Live will return to Trafalgar square this summer, on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 June 2013.
Now in its 9th year, a wealth of West End shows will perform live on a stage in the Square including some big premieres – namely the first outing for Tim Rice’s new musical From Here To Eternity, Menier Chocolate Factory production The Color Purple and the Open Air Theatre’s new production of The Sound Of Music.
New shows now running in the West End and playing at the event will include A Chorus Line, Once: A New Musical, Limbo, Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along and The Golden Voice starring Darren Day.
The event will also see Dirty Dancing – The Classic Story On Stage return to West End Live as it comes back to the West End for a limited run.
Other shows to be featured in the event include West End long-runners Mamma Mia!, We Will Rock You, War Horse, Matilda The Musical, Stomp, Top Hat, Billy Elliot, The Phantom of the Opera, The Bodyguard, Let It Be, Disney’s The Lion King, Les Miserables, Jersey Boys, Spamalot, Wicked, Jersey Boys, Matilda The Musical and Thriller Live. It will also be one of the last times to catch Burn The Floor before it leaves the Shaftesbury Theatre.
The event will also see performances from Dora The Explorer Live, Horrible Histories Barmy Britain, singer Lucy Mason and the Open Air’s Dinosaur Zoo, and activities and exhibits from attractions such as Ripley’s Believe It or Not!, Historic Royal Palaces, London Film Museum, The Science Museum, Theatre’s Trust, Pollock’s Toy Store and Forbidden Planet.
West End Live will run from 11am to 6pm on Saturday 22 June 2012 and 12pm to 6pm on Sunday 23 June 2013 in Trafalgar Square.
This year the event is being pegged to the 350th anniversary of the West End.
COMMENT
What’s missing from the line-up?
- The West End Men starring Lee Mead is timed to finish its run at the Vaudeville Theatre on 22 June… we think they should pop themselves to Trafalgar Square as a decent finale!
- A Book of Mormon seems notable by its absence – let’s hope it confirms soon (or is it just too rude?!)
- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a natural for this kind of event but hasn’t confirmed yet
- Derren Brown’s new show Infamous kicks off at the Palace Theatre from 24 June – will Derren make a guest appearance?
- Where’s Rock of Ages in the list?
- It would be fab to see Some Like It Hip Hop make a splash at the event
- Viva Forever: We know you are saying goodbye on 29 June but wouldn’t it be a great way of bowing out to your fans to be there in Trafalgar Square?
- Star power: Kim Cattrall and Daniel Radcliffe are both performing in the West End this weekend – will they make surprise appearances?
