The cast of White Christmas appeared on a snowy Bond Street in London yesterday evening (29 October 2014).

Aled Jones, Tom Chambers, Wendi Peters, Graham Cole and the cast of White Christmas the Musical performed at Fenwick of Bond Street to launch the big new West End show.

The event marked the official start of Christmas on Bond Street as famous department store Fenwick of Bond Street came together with big new West End musical Irving Berlin’s White Christmas.

The corner balcony at Fenwick’s was reopened for the event – the first time since the end of World War II.

Aled Jones and the cast sung the title song from the show, under a blanket of virtual snow.

White Christmas starts its run at the Dominion Theatre from 8 November 2014, and marks the first time that the musical has been performed in London. The show will also celebrate the 60th anniversary of the much-loved Bing Crosby film.

Rehearsals have kicked off this week ahead of the opening of WHITE CHRISTMAS at the Dominion Theatre.

This festive treat opens on 8 November 2014 for a strictly limited 8 week season until 3 January 2015.

The full cast of the show has now been announced, led by TV host Aled Jones as Bob Wallace, Top Hat star and Strictly winner Tom Chambers as Phil Davis, Coronation Street’s Wendi Peters as Martha, plus Graham Cole as General Waverley, Rachel Stanley as Betty Haynes and Louise Bowden as Judy Haynes.

Other cast include Lori Haley Fox, Michelle Bishop, Phil Cole, Brendan Cull and Jonathan Halliwell. Also in the cast are Vikki-Marie Ryan, Lucinda Lawrence, Karen Aspinall, Emma Caffrey, Hayley Reed, Helen Patching, Vicki Davids, Jennifer Davison, Grace Holdstock, Ross McLaren, Joshua Lay, Matt Cheney, Jonny Labey, Anthony Whiteman, Eddie Myles, Stuart Winter, Matt Clark and Gary Murphy. Amy Snudden, Emily Robins, Sophia Pettet and Tatum Confrey will alternate the role of Susan.

An 18-piece orchestra will accompany the cast, singing some much-loved songs including Let Yourself Go, Sisters, The Best Things Happen When You’re Dancing, Snow, Count Your Blessings, Blue Skies, Love You Didn’t Do Right By Me, How Deep Is The Ocean, I’ve Got My Love To Keep Me Warm and, of course, the title song, White Christmas.

Irving Berlin’s classic musical White Christmas is the tale of two ex-army pals who team up with a pair of sisters to put on a show to save their former General’s remote Vermont ski lodge that’s fallen on hard times.

With music and lyrics by Irving Berlin and a book by David Ives and Paul Blake, White Christmas is directed by Morgan Young and choreographed by Randy Skinner.

The Dominion Theatre, which has recently reopened after refurbishment, is currently hosting Andrew Lloyd Webber’s EVITA starring Marti Pellow until 1 November.

TV presenter and former boy soprano Aled Jones is to make his West End debut this Christmas in a revival of Irving Berlin’s classic White Christmas.

Also starring in the limited season at the Dominion Theatre is Tom Chambers, who won Strictly Come Dancing and starred in Top Hat in the West End.

Aled Jones plays Bob Wallace in the show, with Tom Chambers as Phil Davis.

This will be the show’s West End premiere and will re-open the newly refurbished Dominion Theatre on 8 November 2014 for a limited eight-week run until 3 January 2015.

A 30-strong cast and 17-strong orchestra will feature in the show, with other cast including Wendi Peters as Martha, Graham Cole as General Waverley, Rachel Stanley as Betty Haynes and Louise Bowden as Judy Haynes.

The show is based on the movie classic which starred Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera Ellen and has music and lyrics by Irving Berlin and a book by David Ives and Paul Blake.

Irving Berlin’s White Christmas was originally directed on Broadway by Walter Bobbie, and will be directed at the Dominion by Morgan Young with choreography by Randy Skinner.

White Christmas will run from 8 November 2014 to 3 January 2015.

Top Hat the Musical has won this year’s Big Night Out award at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards, voted by members of the theatregoing public.

Currently playing at the Aldywch theatre in London, Top Hat saw off stiff competition from a range of West End musicals and plays including CabaretChariots of FireA Chorus of DisapprovalLet It BeLoservilleMatilda The MusicalOur Boys and Singin’ in the Rain.

Conducted by online vote, the Big Night Out audience award was introduced for the first time last year as part of the Evening Standard Theatre Awards, and was won by Wicked.

Producers of Top Hat ran a marketing campaign to persuade fans to vote, including a specially shot video featuring the cast of the show including Summer Strallen and Tom Chambers.

Based on the classic Hollywood movie starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, Top Hat transferred to the Aldwych Theatre in the West End following a sell-out run at the Chichester Festival Theatre.

Gavin Lee To Join Cast Of West End Hit Musical Top Hat

From 5 February 2013 Gavin Lee will join the cast of the hit West End production of Top Hat to play Jerry Travers, the role played in the original RKO motion picture by Fred Astaire. Top Hat is currently booking at the Aldwych Theatre until 28 September 2013 having recently released a further 180,000 new tickets for sale. Seventy seven years after its movie release, Matthew White’s production arrived in the West End earlier this year having completed a 20 week sell-out UK tour.

From 27 November 2012, Charlotte Gooch will join the cast to play Dale Tremont alongside Tom Chambers who continues in the role of Jerry Travers until 2 February 2013.

Gavin Lee returns to the West End where he previously originated the role of Bert in the London production of Mary Poppins for which he was Laurence Olivier award nominated. He went on to play the role on Broadway for which he received Drama Desk and Theatre World Awards as well as a Tony Award nomination. While in New York he appeared at Carnagie Hall in Showboat and on television guest starred in Law and Order SUV and The Good Wife. His other London credits include Crazy For You, Peggy Sue Got Married, Me and My Girl, Over My Shoulder, Oklahoma and Contact. His regional theatre credits include Singin’ In The Rain, Snoopy, Noel Coward’s Masterpieces, Of Thee I Sing, Saturday Night, Chicago and Alan Ayckbourn’s Whenever. Gavin Lee is extremely grateful to Cameron Mackintosh, Tom Schumacher and Kenny Wax for making this opportunity possible.

Charlotte Gooch has recently completed a run playing the leading role of Penny Johnson in the UK National Tour of Dirty Dancing, a role she also played at the Theatre am Potsdamer Platz, Berlin. Her other theatre credits include Patty in the UK tour of Grease and Bombalurina in the European tour of Cats. She played the title role in Cinderella at the De La Ware Pavillion, Bexhill and Genie of the Ring in Aladdin at the North Wales Theatre, Llandudno.

Jerry Travers, the famous American tap dancer, arrives in London to appear in his first West End show. Travers meets the irresistible Dale Tremont, the girl of his dreams, and follows her across Europe in an attempt to win her heart.
Performed by a cast of 31 and accompanied by a live band of 15, this new musical comedy includes Irving Berlin classics from the original movie. A further ten numbers have been interpolated from Berlin’s 1200 strong back catalogue.

Directed by Matthew White and choreographed by Bill Deamer,Top Hat has set designs by Hildegard Bechtler, costume designs by Jon Morrell, lighting design by Peter Mumford, sound by Gareth Owen, new orchestrations by Chris Walker, musical supervision by Richard Balcombe and musical direction by Daniel Jackson. With music and lyrics by Irving Berlin and based on the RKO motion picture, the screenplay by Dwight Taylor and Allan Scott has been adapted for the stage by Matthew White and Howard Jacques and is presented by arrangement with RKO Pictures LLC, Warner Bros Theatre Ventures Inc. and the Irving Berlin Music Company.

The original London cast recording of Top Hat was recently released by First Night Records.

Top Hat is produced by Kenny Wax, and his partners on the production are Stewart Lane and Bonnie Comley, Ted Hartley, Flora Suk-Hwa Yoon and Lee Menzies.
