Broadway Bares release arty posters for new show
March 17, 2011
We are LOVING the posters just released to promote the next Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS fundraiser Broadway Bares XXI: Masterpiece (19 June 2011 in New York, tickets from Broadway Cares).
The show promises to be a modern-day burlesque that uses art as a theme, with 200 of Broadway’s sexiest bodies strutting their stuff on stage at the Roseland Ballroom in New York.

Art influenced posters to promote the next Broadway Bares event. From left, Matisse, Roy Lichtenstein and Michelangelo-inspired.
The show will be executive produced by Legally Blonde director and Catch Me If You Can choreographer Jerry Mitchell.
The first Broadway Bares was back in 1992 featuring seven dancers stripping on a bar to raise $8,000. In the 20 editions since, they have raised more than $7.5 million.
The UK charity TheatreMAD, part of the Make A Difference Trust, run a UK version of the event, West End Bares, which last ran in September at the Cafe de Paris, also exec produced by Jerry Mitchell. West End Bares: Strip Britannia raised nearly £42,000 for charity, and their next event is West End Eurovision on 21 April 2011 at the Piccadilly Theatre, seeing the casts of West End shows battle it out to be crowned West End Eurovision winner. Special guests will include the original Buck’s Fizz.
ABC DAYTIME EVENT
It’s worth mentioning that Broadway Cares also run an annual event for the last seven years called ABC Daytime Salutes Broadway Cares. The Grand Finale Celebration was last week, 13 March 2011, and saw an evening of Broadway song and dance at New York City’s The Town Hall from over 20 American daytime TV stars. The event has raised $1,850,000 in total over the last few years – something for the UK charity to think about. I can easily see “ITV Salutes the West End” – would love to see the Loose Women, Emmerdale and Corrie teams giving us some showstoppers!

The organisation behind West End Bares brings its West End Eurovision fundraiser back for its fourth year
The Make A Difference Trust, which brings together the British Entertainment industry to raise funds to support people living with HIV and AIDS, is holding its annual West End Eurovision night on Thursday 21 April 2011.
The fun late night fundraiser, which starts at 11.30pm at the Piccadilly Theatre, will see West End Shows competing against each other by singing original Eurovision Song Contest songs.
The theatre audience, and a panel of celebrity judges, will choose the winners. Previous winners of the event have included Wicked in 2008, Mamma Mia! in 2009 and Dirty Dancing in 2010. Last year’s judges were Graham Norton, host of the BBC’s Eurovision coverage, Sally Ann Triplett and Toby Anstis.
The show also features a special guest appearance by a past original Eurovision Song Contest entrant and promises a night of glitz and glamour.
David Pendlebury, Chairman of TheatreMAD, said: “Eurovision is such a camp and fun event, so it’s perfectly suited to a late night West End show and we are grateful to everyone for helping us to make it happen. It has the potential to raise such a lot of money for the projects we support and we are thrilled to present WEST END EUROVISION for the fourth year.”

West End strips bare for charity
July 16, 2010
The Broadway Bares fundraising initiative is finally making its way to London as WEST END BARES: Strip Britannia! is launched in London.
Based on American musical director Jerry Mitchell’s original idea, WEST END BARES: Strip Britannia! provides an opportunity for the West End’s sexiest, sassiest and downright HOTTEST performers to raise money for charity – and put on a damn good show.
The show will be hosted by TV and stage star John Barrowman, a patron of The Make A Difference Trust, and promises to be a mix of naughty adult-only burlesque and the glitz and glamour of London theatre in a fabulous song and dance spectacular.
There will be two shows, at 9.30pm and midnight, on Sunday 5 September 2010 at the Cafe de Paris in London, with all money raised going to TheatreMAD & The Make A Difference Trust.
Broadway Bares has been running in New York since 1992 and has raised millions for the Broadway Cares and Equity Fights AIDS charities.
The London show will be executive produced by Jerry Mitchell and directed by Darren Carnall, who is currently appearing in the West End’s Legally Blonde at the Savoy Theatre.
TheatreMAD and The Make A Difference Trust brings together the British Entertainment community and its audiences to raise funds to support people living with HIV and AIDS, and those in the entertainment industry facing hardship as a result of a long-term medical condition.
