Ghost The Musical And Stand Up To Cancer Announce New Collaboration As Single Is Released

April 5, 2011

FIRST-EVER THEATRICAL SINGLE TO BENEFIT CANCER RESEARCH

Led by artist and musician Dave Stewart, Ghost The Musical and the charity Stand Up To Cancer today announce a new collaboration. Stewart, whose latest project Ghost The Musical will have its world premiere in the UK this Spring, is a long standing ambassador for the international grassroots charitable movement Stand Up To Cancer. The new single will be the first-ever theatrical single to benefit cancer research.

Ghost The Musical will be working with Stand Up To Cancer on a number of initiatives to raise awareness and funding for the charity. These include the release of a new single on 22nd June 2011 from the show entitled With You, sung by Richard Fleeshman and Caissie Levy, who play the iconic roles of Sam and Molly, the proceeds of which will go to the charity. The EP will be downloadable from www.ghostthemusical.com/su2c and http://itunes.apple.com/gb/preorder/with-you-ep/id430303920

A star studded Gala performance in aid of the charity is planned for the Autumn at the Piccadilly Theatre and there will be a number of other events and fund raising activities in the coming months.

Dave Stewart said: “What better mediums than music and the theatre to convey a message, as music lovers and theatre goers contribute to cancer research and offer hope for the millions of people surviving with cancer. We can beat this disease but it takes every one of us to get involved. One in two men and one in three women will be diagnosed with some form of cancer in their lifetimes. We have all loved someone who has been touched by cancer. And by supporting Stand Up To Cancer in this way we can help change those odds.”

Colin Ingram, Producer of Ghost The Musical, said: “This is the start of a long relationship between Ghost the Musical and Stand Up To Cancer, which aims to raise awareness and funds for the charity. Many of the songs from our show speak about the loss of a loved one and with our composer Dave Stewart as a major creative force on the charity’s team and the leading man of the original film, Patrick Swayze, losing his life to cancer, the partnership between the show and the charity seemed a natural fit”.

Last Chance To See Grease In The West End At The Piccadilly Theatre

March 23, 2011

MUST CLOSE ON SATURDAY 30 APRIL 2011

Following a triumphant run of nearly four years, the smash hit musical Grease will close in London at the end of its current West End run on Saturday 30 April 2011. Grease returned to London on 25 July 2007 and since its premiere the show has played over 1,500 performances and entertained audiences totalling more than 1 ½ million people at the Piccadilly Theatre where it opened to public acclaim and is now the longest running show in the venue’s history. Grease will begin a new tour this spring (the first in over five years) opening at the Edinburgh Playhouse on 6 May 2011.

Since breaking out on Broadway in 1972, Grease’s place has been firmly established in the cultural Hall of Fame having seduced the hearts of millions with its back-to-back sizzling tunes. The show features all the unforgettable songs from the hit film including ‘You’re The One That I Want’, ‘Grease Is The Word’, ‘Summer Nights’, ‘Hopelessly Devoted to You’, ‘Sandy’, ‘Greased Lightnin’ and many more.

Voted the “No 1 Greatest Musical”*, Grease has proved that a musical love story, bursting with denim, cheerleaders, slick hairstyles, rock’n’roll, teenage angst and young romance is timeless and universal.

This production originally opened in the West End in 1993 (co-produced with Robert Stigwood) where it enjoyed a fantastic run of 6 years. The last international tour of Grease was a phenomenal success, playing to sell-out audiences and smashing records at many venues. Since 1993 the show has been seen by audiences totalling over 12 million people in the UK alone. Last year, a second production played internationally in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Auckland and Hong Kong.

Written by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, directed by David Gilmore (Daisy Pulls It Off, Happy Days, Song & Dance, Footloose) and choreographed by Arlene Phillips (Starlight Express, Saturday Night Fever, Flashdance The Musical & BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing), Grease is produced in the West End by Paul Nicholas and David Ian, by arrangement with Robert Stigwood.

Former Atomic Kitten star Natasha Hamilton is to follow Spice Girl Melanie C into the West End tonight playing the lead role in Blood Brothers at the Phoenix Theatre.

Mel C scored a huge hit with the show, making the transition from pop star to stage star, and Hamilton will be hoping for more of the same.

She told the Liverpool Echo today that by the end of the show “I’ve been sobbing, crying my eyes out when my sons are dead on the floor. It’s just hard not to feel that emotion. The play’s so powerful and it tugs at those heart strings so much.”

Her husband Riad and sons Josh, Harry and baby Alfie will all be there tonight to support her in her first big acting role in the West End.

Natasha joins a roll call of famous theatrical ladies who have played the part of Mrs Johnstone including Mel C, Barbara Dickson, Petula Clark, Kiki Dee, X-Factor runner-up Nikki Evans and most recently Maureen Noaln.

RICHARD FLEESHMAN in Ghost The Musical

November 16, 2010

Richard Fleeshman continues to forge his West End career in Ghost The Musical

RICHARD FLEESHMAN in Ghost The MusicalHe may be best know for his four year stint in Coronation Street playing Craig Harris, but there’s much more to Fleeshman that soap.

An accomplished singer and musician, he released his album Neon in 2007 followed by singles Coming Down, Hold Me Close, Back Here and Can You Hear Me? Plus he won not one but two ITV talent shows – Stars in Their Eyes Celebrity Special and Soapstar Superstar. Oh, and he accompanied someone called Mr Elton John on his Summer Stadium and Red Piano tours.

TV roles have included All The Small Things and recently Moving On: Rules of the Game for the BBC. But it’s his stage work that is currently attracting the buzz.

He wowed audiences at the Savoy Theatre this year with his performance as posh cad Warner Huntington III opposite Sheridan Smith in Legally Blonde The Musical.

And now, his biggest challenge yet: following Patrick Swayze in a ghostly role that will require convincing acting and some stunning singing, starring alongside another powerhouse musicals star – this time up-and-coming Broadway baby Caissie Levy.

Ghost the Musical, which starts off at the Opera House in Manchester before opening at the Piccadilly Theatre in London in June, will be directed by Matthew Warchus (Deathtrap, La Bete), with music and lyrics by legendary pop and rock writers Dave Stewart (Eurythmics) and Glen Ballard (writer of Michael Jackson’s Man in the Mirror). The show will also feature the classic song Unchained Melody. CAISSIE LEVY in Ghost The Musical

November 15, 2010

Broadway’s Caissie Levy returns to the London stage in Ghost The Musical

CAISSIE LEVY in Ghost The MusicalCaissie Levy must love London.

She was here only a few months ago playing Sheila in the London transfer of Broadway hit HAIR at the Gielgud Theatre. And now Matthew Warchus has cast her in new movie-to-musical Ghost, based on the Oscar-winning film.

Caissie, who hails from Canada and trained at New York’s prestigious American Musical and Dramatic Academy, got her big break playing Penny Pingleton in the Broadway and US tour of Hairspray. She hasn’t stopped since, having played Maureen Johnson in the US tour of Rent, Elphaba in the LA production of Wicked, and then HAIR on Broadway and in London.

In Ghost The Musical Caissie takes on the lead role of Molly, played in the movie by Demi Moore. When her boyfriend Sam, played in the show by Richard Fleeshman, is trapped as a ghost between this world and the next, he tries to communicate to her through a phoney psychic (Sharon D Clarke), in the hope of saving her from his murderer.
