King Lear RSC at the Barbican Theatre
Barbican, Silk Street, London, EC2Y 8DS
Celebrating 400 years of the genius of Shakespeare, Artistic Director of The Royal Shakespeare Company Gregory Doran, directs Antony Sher in one of the greatest parts ever written by the bard.
King Lear will run from 10 November 2016 until 23 December 2016 at the Barbican Theatre.
King Lear has ruled for many years. As age overtakes him, he decides to divide his kingdom among his children, living out his days without the burden of power. Allowing vanity to cloud his judgement, he believes he can relinquish the crown while enjoying the same authority and respect he has always known.
Misjudging his children’s loyalty, he soon finds himself stripped of all the trappings of state he has taken for granted. Alone in the wilderness, he is left to confront his mistakes.
The cast features Romayne Andrew, Antony Byrne, Eke Chukwu, James Clyde, James Cooney, Bethan Cullinane, Marieme Diouf, Paapa Essiedu, Jenny Fennessy, Kevin N Golding, Marcus Griffiths, Nia Gwynne, Oliver Johnstone, Byron Mondahl, Theor Ogundipe, Antony Sher, Natalie Simpson, Clarence Smith, David Toughton, Graham Turner, Ewart James Walters and Kelly Williams.
Directed by Gregory Doran with design by Niki Turner.
