Close To You makes its highly anticipated West End transfer to the Criterion Theatre.
Close To You, a new musical featuring Burt Bacharach’s songbook, transfers to the West End playing a strictly limited season from 3 October 2015 until 10 January 2016 at the Criterion Theatre.
Redefining the songbook musical, Close To You – Bacharach Reimagined fuses Kyle Riabko’s reinterpretation of over 30 timeless Bacharach melodies with innovative choreography, taking the audience on an emotional and exhilarating journey.
The production, conceived by Kyle Riabko and David Lane Seltzer, came about after Bacharach and Riabko were introduced at an LA recording studio, with Riabko going on to produce numerous demos for Bacharach. Premiering at The New York Theater Workshop as What’s It All About- Bacharach Reimagined, the production received critical acclaim going on to be the longest running show in the history of that theatre, followed by the recent sold-out run at the Menier Chocolate Factory, from where it transfers.
After seeing the show, Bacharach said it felt as though he had received “a love letter” and commented, “Kyle has done something truly unique with my music.”
‘Close To You’ features over 30 of Bacharach’s catalogue of hits including Alfie, Raindrops Keep Fallin’ on My Head, What the World Needs Now Is Love, I Say a Little Prayer, Walk on By, A House Is Not a Home, That’s What Friends Are For, Close to You, (There’s) Always Something There to Remind Me, The Look of Love, What’s New Pussycat?, Do You Know the Way to San Jose?, The Windows of the World, I Just Don’t Know What to Do with Myself, Magic Moments, Anyone Who Had a Heart, Make It Easy on Yourself, Wishin’ and Hopin’ and Message to Michael.
Close To You is directed by Steven Hoggett, with set design by Christine Jones and Brett Banakis, costume design by Matthew Wright, lighting design by Tim Lutkin, and sound design by Richard Brooker.
