Romola Garai leads the cast in Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure at the Young Vic.

Joe Hill-Gibbins follows his path breaking The Changeling and Edward II (National Theatre) with Measure for Measure – Shakespeare’s dark comedy of injustice, sexual politics and disguise.  Measure for Measure plays for a strictly limited run at the Young Vic theatre from 2 October 2015 til 7 November 2015.

STORY

In a Vienna heaving with sex and corruption, even the authorities are up to no good. The Duke has left deputy Angelo to clean up the city’s reputation, whilst he observes in disguise. Abusing his power, Angelo forces young nun Isabella to choose between saving her brother’s life or breaking her vow of chastity  A deeply emotional yet sexy take on Shakespeare’s study of virtue and sin.

CAST

Romola Garai makes her Young Vic debut as Isabella. Romola’s previous theatre work includes Indian Ink (Roundabout, New York), The Village Bike (Royal Court), Three Sisters (Lyric Hammersmith), King Lear/The Seagull (RSC) and Calico (West End).   Her film work includes Atonement, One Day, I Capture the Castle, Last Days on Mars, Angel, Scoop, Amazing Grace and As You Like it. Her television credits include The Hour, The Crimson Petal and the White, and Emma.
