Patrick Marber’s award-winning play Closer is revived at the Donmar Warehouse, directed by David Leveaux.
An acclaimed cast includes Nancy Carroll, Oliver Chris, Rachel Redford and Rufus Sewell.
Marber’s 1997 play won Olivier, Evening Standard and New York Drama Critics’ Circle Awards and has now been produced in over 200 cities worldwide.
Nancy Carroll (playing Anna) returns to the Donmar having appeared as Sylvia in Josie Rourke’s 2012 production of The Recruiting Officer. Further stage credits include The Duck House (Vaudeville), House of Games and King Lear (Almeida), Arcadia (Duke of York’s), See How They Run (Duchess), You Never Can Tell (Garrick) and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Sheffield Crucible). Productions for the National Theatre include After the Dance for which she won the Olivier Award and the Natasha Richardson Evening Standard Award for Best Actress, The Magistrate, The Enchantment, The Voysey Inheritance, The Talking Cure and The False Servant. She has also appeared in Twelfth Night, Henry IV Parts 1&2, As You Like It, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and The Winter’s Tale, all for the RSC. On television Nancy has appeared in Holby City, Father Brown, Silent Witness, Dalziel and Pascoe, Cambridge Spies and The Gathering Storm for the BBC as well as Lewis and Midsummer Murders for ITV. Films include Iris and An Ideal Husband.
Oliver Chris (playing Dan) makes his Donmar debut in Closer. Oliver’s extensive theatre credits include The Taming of the Shrew (Wilton’s Music Hall), Rain Man (Theatre Royal Bath), A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Rose Theatre, Kingston), Women, Power & Politics (Tricycle), Season’s Greetings, One Man, Two Guvnors, Great Britain (National) and, most recently, Charles III (Almeida). His television credits include Bluestone 42, The I.T. Crowd, Silent Witness, Hotel Babylon, Breathless, Fairy Tales – Rapunzel, Bonkers, Green Wing and The Real Jane Austen. Film credits include Huge, The Other Boleyn Girl, The Gathering and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason.
Rachel Redford (playing Alice) makes her Donmar debut in Closer. Her previous theatre credits include Ghosts from a Perfect Place (Arcola), Adler & Gibb (Royal Court Theatre), Not The Worst Place (Paines Plough), Parallel Lines (Chapter Arts Centre / Dirty Protest), A Family Affair (Sherman Theatre), The Acid Test and Blue Stockings. Film credits include Testament of Youth and The Riot Club.
Rufus Sewell (playing Larry) makes his Donmar debut in Closer. Rufus is well known for both his film and television credits including The Tourist, The Holiday, A Knight’s Tale, The Illusionist, Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, Gods of Egypt, The Sea, At Satchem Farm, Dirty Weekend, Restless, Parade’s End, 11th Hour and The Last Romantics. On stage, Rufus played Jan in Rock N’ Roll (Royal Court, Duke of York’s and Bernard Jacobsen Theatre, New York), winning an Olivier Award, London Critics Circle Award and Evening Standard Award for Best Actor and receiving nominations at the Tony Awards, Drama Desk Awards and What’s On Stage Theatregoers Awards. His other theatre credits include Old Times (Harold Pinter Theatre), Arcadia (National Theatre – Olivier Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor), Macbeth (Queen’s Theatre), Rat in the Skull (Royal Court at the Duke of York’s), Translations (Plymouth Theatre, New York – Theatre World Award for Outstanding Broadway Debut) and Making It Better (Hampstead Theatre and Criterion).
