The cast has been announced for The Railway Children, which plays this Christmas at a new theatre built near King’s Cross Station.

Running from 16 December 2014 to 1 March 2015, the show will star Jeremy Swift (Downton Abbey) as Mr Perks and Caroline Harker (A Touch of Frost) returns to the role of Mother.

Other cast include Louise Calf as Phyllis, Clare Corbett as Mrs Perks, Jack Hardwick as Peter, Mark Hawkins as Jim/District Super, Connie Hyde as Mrs Viney, Andrew Loudon as Father/Doctor, Serena Manteghi as Bobbie, Blair Plant as Schepansky and Moray Treadwell as the Old Gentleman, plus a children’s ensemble made up of four teams of ten children aged between 9 and 15.

This Olivier Award-winning production of E. Nesbit’s much-loved novel The Railway Children is adapted for the stage by Mike Kenny and will be housed in a purpose built 1,000-seat theatre, complete with a railway track and platforms, and with a state of the art heating system.

A live steam train and vintage carriage will form part of the show.

Jeremy Swift is currently starring as Maggie Smith’s butler, Spratt, in ITV’s Downton Abbey. Other credits include the forthcoming series of Foyle’s War, and new movie Jupiter Ascending. Past screen credits include The Crimson Field, Fred Claus, The Smoking Room, Oliver Twist and Gosford Park. Theatre credits include The Way of the World at Chichester, The Family Plays and Honeymoon Suite at the Royal Court, and Abigail’s Party at Hampstead and in the West End.

The show is directed by Damian Cruden with design by Joanna Scotcher, lighting by Richard G. Jones, music by Christopher Madin and sound by Craig Vear.
