I wish to vote for The Railway Children to receive the awards that it is up for. It was in York, at the Railway Museum, that I saw the production in 2008, I think, and it was just SUPERB. The acting was excellent, the set could not have been bettered: it was fantastic, and the whole production was thrilling, first-rate and exciting. I could see that production over and over again and still gain great enjoyment from it.So, I vote for The Railway Children as an excellent dram a production of a quite moving story. In fact, I thought that it was so good that I commended it in a letter published in The Press, York’s locally produced newspaper, whilst mentioning other great things that I had enjoyed in York that Summer. Incidentally, there was a heavy rainstorm whilst my friend and I were lapping up the matinee performance, which added to the special effects as we sat cosily in the asbestos-roofed shed! The sound effects were quite extraordinarily appropriate in Britain, and in no way did they mar the amazingly good performance by the first-rate team of actors. And I loved the old steam train – it brought back so very many happy memories to this pensioner, brought up on a farm about 20 miles away from York, memories of delightful, occasional journeys on magnificent steam trains to York or Scarborough, with my Mother and my siblings. Happy days – Thank You all involved in staging The Railway Children.
