The Almeida’s hit musical version of Bret Easton Ellis’s cult novel American Psycho is to get a US premiere.

No casting has been announced although the show will have an all-American cast, which rules out Matt Smith recreating his London performance as Patrick Bateman.

Directed again by Rupert Goold, the show will start its run in February 2015 at the Second Stage Theater off Broadway, opening officially in March 2014.

The show, devised by Headlong and directed by Rupert Goold, first opened at the Almeida in December 2013.

The musical features music and lyrics by Duncan Sheik and a book by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.

Aguirre-Sacasa told the New York Times earlier this week that Duncan Sheik is writing more songs for the show, and that “We’re going to put a bit more ‘psycho’ in the text and production, a little more horror and suspense”.

There is no news of the much-rumoured West End transfer of the show. Perhaps this next iteration of the show will then come back to the West End.
