Stephen Sachs’ colourful new play Bakersfield Mist is now in previews at the Duchess Theatre in London.

Inspired by true events, this comedy drama raises some interesting questions about what makes art and people authentic.

The story concerns a a clapped-out fifty-something ex-bartender, played by Hollywood star Kathleen Turner, who bought a painting from a charity shop and has now convinced herself it is a priceless Jackson Pollock and her ticket out of trailer park hell. In flies New York art dealer Lionel Percy, played by Tony award-winning British actor Ian McDiarmid (Star Wars), to authenticate the painting… resulting in an extraordinary clash of cultures and series of unexpected events.

The play is directed by Evening Standard award-winner Polly Teale and runs at the Dcuhess Theatre until 30 August 2014.
