West End star moves from Wicked to Oliver!
Broadway and West End fast-rising star Kerry Ellis has recently joined the cast of Oliver! at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, taking over from “I’d Do Anything” winner Jodie Prenger in the role of Nancy.
Kerry Ellis has recently completed two years in Wicked at the Apollo Victoria Theatre playing Elphaba, having previously played the role for six months at the Gershwin Theatre on Broadway. Before Wicked took her career to new heights she has appeared in numerous stage roles including the original London cast of the Queen and Ben Elton musical “We Will Rock You”, ‘Fantine’ in “Les Misérables” at the Queen’s Theatre and ‘Ellen’ in the National Tour of “Miss Saigon”. Earlier this year Kerry played ‘Svetlana’ in “Chess In Concert” at the Royal Albert Hall opposite Josh Grobin, and last year she released her debut CD “Wicked In Rock”, produced by Brian May. It featured ‘Defying Gravity’ and ‘I’m Not That Girl’ from “Wicked” as well as ‘No One But You’ with Queen.
In Oliver!, Kerry stars alongside Griff Rhys Jones as Fagin and Steven Hartley as Bill Sikes.
West End musicals supremo Cameron Mackintosh said recently that Kerry Ellis has “become one of London’s favourite leading ladies”. Praise indeed.
