The star of Scandi detective drama The Killing is to make her West End stage debut.

Sofie Gråbøl, who plays Sarah Lund in the hit crime drama The Killing, will make her West End and British theatre debut as Queen Margaret in a new trilogy of historical plays.

The James Plays by Rona Munro will cover the reigns of three Stewart kings who ruled over Scotland in the 15th century: James I, II and III.

The co-production between the National Theatre and the National Theatre of Scotland will see the plays performed at the Edinburgh international festival in August 2014 before transferring to the Olivier theatre at the National Theatre in October 2014.

Directed by new National Theatre of Scotland artistic director Laurie Sansom, the cast will include James McArdle as James I, Blythe Duff as Isabella,  and Sofie Gråbøl as Queen Margaret. Other cast include Cameron Barnes, Daniel Cahill, Sarah Higgins, Rona Morison, Mark Rowley and Fiona Wood.
