The new adaptation by Eyre has been a huge success for the Almeida, and the play will transfer to the Trafalgar Studios in the West End from 9 December 2013.

Ghosts stars Lesley Manville, who puts in an extraordinary performance as Mrs Alving, alongside Brian McCardie, Will Keen, Jack Lowden and Charlene McKenna.

The play originated at the Almeida Theatre, which next month sees Doctor Who Matt Smith star in a musical adaptation of American Psycho.

Lesley Manville is one of Britain’s most respected actresses. She was last seen on stage in the National Theatre’s 2012 production of Grief and her recent screen credits include May Day (BBC) and the Mike Leigh film Another Year.

Richard Eyre is former artistic director of the National Theatre. He is currently directing Andrew Lloyd Webber’s new musical Stephen Ward at the Aldwych Theatre. His recent stage productions include Quartermaine’s Terms (Wyndham’s Theatre) and The Pajama Game (Chichester Festival Theatre).
